A laser collimator is used to align the optics of a reflecting telescope. The collimator changes the diverging light or other radiation from a point source into a parallel beam. Carbon fibre is often used as the main body for its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) to maintain accuracy. C-Tech built the 300mm ID tube and mounting points as well as machining finishing cut-outs on the 5-axis CNC machine.
As the laser collimator is used through high temperature ranges it was a challenge to meet the thermal expansion demands.
C-Tech performed an extensive FEA analysis with Gurit on the thermal expansion of carbon fibre tubes through a large temperature range to ensure the tubes would meet the extremely small expansion tolerance.
Manufacture a round tube with custom feet mounts meeting precise measurements and internal diameter specifications.
C-Tech had the full capabilities to do everything in-house from the build of the 300mm ID tube and mounting points along with the post fit out and machining process on our 5 axis CNC machine to fulfill the demands of the project.
