This project required lightweight fairings to protect essential robotic hardware from the weather. This high-tech robot is designed to work outdoors specifically to identify and remove weeds amongst your crops to save you labour time. It has very strict weight requirements in order to perform at specification.
The project had some key requirements - light, weathertight, A+ aesthetic and structurally sound. Fibreglass and plastic were both either too heavy or not stiff enough - hence the decision to move to carbon fibre.
C-Tech chose to build the part using a female moulded autoclave process to achieve the best possible laminate consolidation and surface finish. C-Tech was able to manufacture high temperature carbon moulds capable of being autoclaved completely in-house using our 5-axis CNC machine. We integrated some coloured kevlar fibre to meet the customers aesthetic.
